STAREF, established in 2013, is a wholly owned subsidiary of STS Group, providing specialized construction and maintenance services to the growing Gulf Aluminium Smelting market.

STAREF delivers specialist maintenance services to Qatalum in Qatar, including the 2nd-generation pot relining service contract. This contract covers all refractory and mechanical refurbishment for 704 pots used in the production of liquid aluminum. These services provided include pot delining, superstructure and pot shell repair, operation and maintenance of the cathode rodding shop, Pot Change out, manpower for pot startup, anode baking furnace refractory maintenance, holding furnace repairs and full relining, and anode stem repair and refurbishment. In 2019, STAREF was awarded the 3rd-generation Qatalum pot relining service contract.

STAREF also supports various Ma’aden operations in Saudi Arabia. In 2024, it was awarded a 5-year contract for pot shell repair and relining. These services provided include pot delining, superstructure and pot shell repair, operation and maintenance of the cathode rodding shop, Pot Change out, manpower for pot startup. STAREF has also provided anode stem refurbishment services, basement cleaning, to Ma’aden. The company has received multiple HSE Awards and is recognized as a contractor leading in safety across all Ma’aden operations.

In addition, STAREF successfully executed a potroom recovery project for Sohar Aluminum in the Sultanate of Oman and provided refractory services for the Sohar mining sector. In additions the Pot Recovery for both Qatalum & Maaden was also conducted by Staref achieving record times for both smelters to recover all pots lost.

STAREF has a presence at ALBA in Bahrain, supporting specialized basement cleaning operations, along with other smaller contracts.
