Successful Completion of Sohar Refinery Turnaround 2010

The Sohar Refinery complex of Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals Company (ORPC) is back to stream after the successful completion of the plant’s first major turnaround since its commissioning in 2006.

The 57- day turnaround, during which the 116,400 barrels-per-day-capacity plant remained fully offline, was completed on April 4. Undertaken by Special Technical Services LLC (STS), the Sultanate’s leading provider of specialist engineering services, the turnaround will help enhance the technical reliability and optimize the operational efficiency of Oman’s biggest oil refinery at the end of the first five years of its operational life.

Fijairah 2 Power Plant6 - Stack Installation

5 Stacks of 7m diameter and 65m height and total weight of 1220 tonnes , fabricated by STS, have been installed at the Fujairah Power Plant. STS project manager Mr James commented "The project was completed in a record time of just 8 months from procurement to delivery and is one example of STS' fabrication capability and succesful project management"

Oman Gas Company Appreciates STS

STS has received a formal letter of appreciation from the OGC (Oman Gas Company) CEO Mr Yousuf Al-Ojaili to STS for the fast track execution of the recently completed Sohar GSS (Gas Supply Station) cable integrity project, which was completed almost 2 months ahead of the original schedule. This critical project, which was executed by STS’s E&I division, involved the identification and removal of a number of faulty instrumentation cables. The Fast track approach and close working collaboration between OGC and STS were key to the project’s early completion. The cable integrity project is the second major gas project completed in the Sohar region by STS in 2009 for it’s valued client, Oman Gas Company.

STS E&I Division has completed another milestone in its desire to diversify its EPC capability having received approval from both Royal Court Affairs and Distribution Code Review Panel for electrical and instrumentation projects.

STS Cricket Team Breaks New Ground

STS continues it’s support and collaboration with cricket in the Sultanate of Oman. The STS cricket team, first registered in the OCC (Oman Cricket Club) in the year of 2002 now enjoys competing at first class level and has helped develop various Omani national players such as Farhan Khan and Awal Khan. The team's impressive track record is as follows;

Oman League 2003-04 Runner up
Oman League 2004-05 Runner up
Oman League 2005-06 Champion (D Division)
Oman League 2006-07 Champion (Intermediate Division)
Oman League 2007-08 Champion (B Division)

STS are now playing in the OCC A division cricket being first class cricket in Oman.

STS Builds on United Arab Emirates Track Record with ADNOC Award

STS have been awarded a major ASME vessel fabrication order for the ADNOC (Adbu Dhabi National Oil Company) Shah & Sahal Project by the giant Spanish international EPC company Tecnicas Reunidas. The award is the third major fabrication package secured from within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009 and reflects STS’s active ongoing role in the UAE fabrication and construction market going forward. STS are also currently executing a component of the Emal (Emirates Aluminium) construction work in Abu Dhabi at it’s Taweelah site via it’s joint venture subsidiary MASCO (Majan Aluminium Services Co).

Win – Win Strategic Negotiation Training of STS Management

STS senior staff attended a Win-Win Negotiation Training session conducted by Mr David McDonald of the specialist Singapore based HR Consulting and Training company Macsimize. The 2 day course held at the Muscat Crown Plaza Hotel involved training in Negotiation Skills, Communication Skills, Personality Profiling and Business Planning. The course also included various interactive sessions of role play and hypothetical examples of negotiation. STS intends to continue its association with Macsimize by way of further management training in the near future. Mabrouk EPC Field Development Project

STS, in conjunction with it’s Joint Venture partner Mott McDonald, recently completed commissioning activities for Phase 1 of the prestigious Mabrouk EPC Field Development Project for PDO, within Budget, on Schedule and without LTI, allowing PDO to achieve a successful First Oil Flow on March 30th 2009. The Joint venture Scope encompassed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of Oil Production Facilities over a 22 month period and value of approx $48M. STS now looks forward to similar success for Phase 2 of this project involving EPC of Gas Compression Facilities.
